You may have heard her first hit single, “Heart of Gold” on the recently released NOW That’s What I Call Music! 33. Multi-talented newcomer Ashlyne Huff can not only sing, but also is a great songwriter and has a strong passion for dancing. From Nashville, Tennessee, Huff started dancing when she was 7 years old. This gave her a back entrance in music by listening to the different dynamics and lyrics. She started writing her own words while attending Belmont University with the inspiration from her father Dann Huff, producer of Keith Urban and Rascal Flatts, whom also performed on hits by Michael Jackson, Madonna and Faith Hill.
On May 11th, Ashlyne will release her self-titled debut through Liquid Digital Media. In anticipation of the release, AOL Music, will host a listening party. In addition, leading up to the release, Ashlyne was featured on CBS Radio’s “The Street Date”.
While working on her album, Huff explains her writing techniques. “Everyday life inspires my songs such as my friend’s problems. I wrote a song about my breakup with a guy. ‘Comeback’ is a song that could be featured in a commercial, but as a story. It’s a throwback song with a Grease (the movie) sound. I write about things that I observe.”
Ashlyne co-wrote all of her songs with different people such as Busbee, Nick Brophy and Swedish songwriter, Mathias Wollo. This definitely gave her album some spice. “Co-writing with [Mathias Wollo] made my album have more variety of music. The songs were more electronic and techno. I also co-wrote ‘Make it Rain’ with a friend from Nashville. Every song has different sounds.” Her other hit song “Heart Beat” consists of an R&B sound along with a lot of heavy guitar.
Huff’s song “Trippin’ It Up” was featured on the soundtrack of the made-for-TV movie “Secrets of the Mountain”, which premiered on NBC April 16th. With American Idol’s Randy Jackson serving as music supervisor, the movie was sponsored by Proctor and Gamble and Wal-Mart, who released the film as a DVD/soundtrack package exclusively on April 17th.
In support of the release, Ashlyne is currently touring with one of 2009’s breakout band, Honor Society, on their “Here Comes Trouble” U.S. tour along with teen pop sensation Just Kait. The 33-city tour kicked off March 19th in St. Petersburg, FL and Ashlyne continues to gain new fans at each stop with her infectious blend of pop and rock.
“It’s been great so far,” Ashlyne says of the tour. “The guys are really cool, we all go out. We’ve done a lot of House of Blues shows and my favorite one was in Chicago, but every show I’ve done is different which makes it special.”
In addition to the Honor Society tour, Huff recently performed in Los Angeles with hot new artists Orianthi and Jason Derulo for an OP “Rock Your Shine” promotion that will launch later this month. “OP is a clothing line in Wal-Mart, and the purpose of this performance was to model the clothes” explains Ashlyne. “We each wore something from the line while performing. We’re trying to bring back OP clothing and setting a trend that these are clothes that look good on anyone, no matter who you are and are affordable.” The OP line is supposed to launch on the 15th of May.
With all her newfound fans, Ashlyne had a special message for them at the end of her interview with StarShine: “Thank you everyone for all the support! My album comes out May 11th, which I’m really excited about. I can’t wait for people to hear it and get feed back! I consider all my fans as my friends and I’m really excited to get to know more people!”
