Instagram May Soon Enable One Hour Videos — Which of Course Will Need Music

Instagram is looking to push the boundaries with longer vertical videos with a 1-hour clip limit, which could potentially pose a threat to YouTube’s dominance in the format.

Going from 10 second clips on Snapchat to 6-second videos on Vine (RIP), the attention span of our generation has become minimal, which is why social media platforms have altered their features to cater to our evolving tech savvy users.
However, now it looks like Instagram is taking a step in the opposite direction of the small-clip trend and is soon embracing a longer video format.
Instagram is considering changing its maximum video length from one minute to one hour. The update would reportedly serve as an extension of Instagram Stories where users can post series of 15-second videos that disappear after 24 hours. The new video feature would be vertically-oriented, and Instagram has already been talking with top publishers and influencers about participating.
While this might positively impact business, this could raise some concerns for copyright issues with music that is featured in the background of the videos, resulting in the app having to adapt to new copyrighting rules.
This could be a great feature to have for influencers and business marketers in the music and entertainment industry trying to promote their brand along with expanded ad and sponsorship opportunities. However, this could also pose as a threat to popular video streaming platform, YouTube, where many popular social influencers live on.
Just like YouTube, Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, also has a large community of influential users with large followings. Many teens prefer Instagram, Snapchat and YouTube over Facebook, meaning Instagram is doing just fine with the teen market, but offering creator-made content that teens are heading to YouTube for, they could do better.
Currently, the only way for those users to post extended videos is via livestream, which doesn’t contain ads, but that might all change very soon.
