Over Labor Day Weekend, Electric Zoo returned to New York City for the eighth time, which marked their highest overall attendance since 2013.
Electric Zoo: Wild Island drew in about 83,000 attendees, but had the highest success with 33,000 headliners on Sunday. SFX Entertainment Inc., the world’s largest producer of live events and entertainment content focused on electronic music, announced that they have successfully completed the three-day festival at Randall’s Island Park.

“This was an incredibly important time for all of us as we re-imagined Electric Zoo to give the community an immersive experience,” said Michael Julian, Director of Marketing at Made Event/SFX Entertainment, Inc. “This festival represents the best of any electronic music event globally, while keeping our hearts rooted in New York dance floors. We met a big milestone this year and look forward to working ever harder to exceed expectations for next year.”
This year, they created a unique “Wild Island” theme featuring a variety of animals wandering the island from zebras, lions, tigers, monkeys, and a giant giraffe that can easily catch your eye.
The festival included over 100 of the world’s biggest artists who performed across four different animal-themed stages such as a cobra for the main stage and an octopus for one of the other popular stages. Festival goers packed the island to watch some of their favorite headliners perform such as Tiësto, Hardwell, The Chainsmokers, Cash Cash, Steve Aoki, Bassnectar, Blasterjaxx, Porter Robinson, Zomboy, Carnage, Borgore, NGHTMRE and many, many more.

I also had the pleasure of catching up with Kris Trindl, AKA Rain Man, during EZoo to talk about signing with Dim Mak, his experience as a solo artists and new music.
This is ur first time playing EZoo?
“No I played here 3 years ago with Krewella, but this is my first time here as a solo artist. It’s great to be back!”
How do you find it different from when you were performing with Krewella to now as a solo artist?
“It definitely gives me the freedom to be creative and independent. I’ve grown up a lot over the past two years and I have a new outlook. I guess I would say I’m more professional and more adult, more responsible. Before people questioned, ‘Oh, did Rain Man even make the beats?’ and I was like ‘Alright, I’m going back to being a DJ.’ Now I allow my music to speak for itself.”
I know you signed with Dim Mak, now this weekend is a big weekend for you, your celebrating DIM MAK’s 20th anniversary at EZoo, any other plans for celebrating?
“I love being a part of the Dim Mak family, there’s so many different genres being represented. It’s an exciting year for us, 2016 marks our 20th anniversary. We’re going to Vegas to perform a few shows. I’m flying out early tomorrow morning to Vegas to do a few shows as well.”
You even released your first single with DIM MAK, “Bring Back The Summer,” What is your inspiration behind the song?
“The song came together in like one night. The vocalist had the lyrics, she had the beat and we put it together in one day. It’s a cross-over pop electronic genre. She wrote me the vocals and I turned it into ‘Bring Back The Summer’ in one night.”
Is the pop-electronic sound something you want to stick with or continue drum & bass because I know before starting in 2012 that was a lot of the music you were producing.
“I’m really experimenting with sounds. Like with “Bring Back The Summer” and “Alive” with Krewella we ended up creating a more pop-electronic sounds and incorporated a lot of vocals in the songs. But with songs like “Killin It,” it was a lot of drum and bass and hard core EDM. It’s just kind of whatever comes to me and what I’m feeling at the time, I’ll create it and play around with different sounds.”
What’s next for you? What can fans look forward to from you?
“I have a new single that will be coming out at the end of the month, on Sept. 30. And I’m also working on an EP.”
And to wrap it up, tell us five things we don’t know about you!
“Five things!? Damn, haha! I play acoustic guitar; I love watching ‘Gossip Girl’’ I’m from a small town right outside of Chicago, not really IN Chicago; and … I don’t know what else! Damn, I just found out I’m a very boring person!”
Haha, okay, so I guess that can be your final fact, you’re a very boring person! (I said jokingly.)
“I guess so! I’m a boring person!”
